The Northport VA Disabled Veterans Adaptive Sporting Event will be held on June 15th, 2016 in honor of Cpl. Carlos M. Gonzalez an Iraqi Freedom Veteran who served and died with honor as a member of the U.S. Army’s 101st Military Intelligence Detachment, 501st Special Troop Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Fort Campbell,KY.
Although this is not the first time SailAhead participates in the Northport VA activities, this June 15th will be our first Adaptive Sporting Day and we are proud to be a part of it. We'll provide sailboats, skippers and crew. Our launching harbor will be Northport and we'll be sailing on the LI Sound. Our goal is to introduce the joy of sailing to all participants.

Safety Team Leader
Brian is currently retired from a full career during which he held different positions from computer programmer and analyst to project manager and consultant. He lives in Greenlawn, NY where he keeps himself busy with all sorts of activities such as: being a volunteer at the Northport VA, Recreation Therapy, American Red Cross, member of SailAhead, American Legion, Veterans Advocacy Council for Mental Health, Suffolk Archers, Team River Runner, ACA Kayak instructor, Archery Instructor and Aquatics Instructor assistant!
Brian is also a US Army Veteran from the Vietnam era, where he served at Army Ops Center Support Division, Pentagon.
Lead Nurse, Assistant Safety Team Leader
Kathleen received her BS in Nursing from Adelphi University. Her extensive nursing experience includes NICU, OR and orthopedics in the US Air Force. During active duty, Kathleen was assigned to the Air Transportable Hospital Team and the planning/logistics committee responsible for AF Thunderbird Air Shows at her base.
Since discharge, Kathleen has specialized in employee health nursing (Airlines, Associated Press, Barclays Capital) and is a Certified Occupational Health Nurse-Specialist (COHN-S). She’s a member of Nassau County’s Office of Emergency Management, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), the American Society of Safety Engineers and the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses. Kathleen keeps busy with family, being creative with computerized embroidery and outdoor activities.
