Let's Take a Veteran Sailing with Centerport Yacht Club

Let's Take a Veteran Sailing - CYCOverview

Our very first "Let’s Take a Veteran Sailing" Event took place on August 22, 2015 and was a real success by all account! So much that we have made it an annual occurrence with our partner the Centerport Yacht Club who so generously has been hosting it since its inception.

Of all SailAhead's events, this event is by far the one that requires to most work to organize.

Like every SaiLAhead Event, it is meant to spread PTSD and veteran suicide awareness. It is also a way to honor Our Mates and finally to celebrate SailAhead's work with our friends, veterans and volunteers, and many partners.

Simply put, the SailAhead "Let's Take a Veteran Sailing" event is a giant Sailing and BBQ party held at the Centerport Yacht Club!
50+ sailboats, 5+ powerboats, nearly 200 guest Veterans (The reality is that we also have veterans as part of the SailAhead team - We also have veterans among our skippers and volunteers - so there are more veterans indeed!) 140+ Volunteers, great weather (most of the times) and a really nice BBQ at the end of a great sailing outing on the North Shore. Every one has a great time and every one is proud to have been part of this event.

By having this event annually, we hope to continue spreading SailAhead's mission throughout Long Island and our neighbouring states, spreading the word about PTSD so that we may continue healing, branching out to other Yacht Club's and organizations who would like to do the same. Through this event we can reach many people at a time, spreading very effectively the word while enjoying sailing with many wonderful people.

The intense planning beforehand has proven to be a lot of work, but the rewarding feeling and the amount of people who will be helped make all efforts in making this event possible, truly worth every second of planning and coordinating.
