Safety Category

The price of such safety device is $1,245.00 and can be purchased online. Ideally SailAhead needs 2.

Even though we have never had the need for such a device as of yet, and all our skippers are CPR certified, we are taking more and more veterans sailing, and when at sea we are often far from land!
Having the proper equipment and proper training can define life or death in remote enough locations.

If you are an individual or corporation and want to participate in the purchase of such a device, please contact us for your tax deductible donation!

On behalf of our veterans and the SailAhead team ... Thank you!

Defibtech Lifeline AEDWe Need Gas for our Safety Power Boat - a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (Rhib)!

Safety Category

The cost to fill up the tank of our RHIB is $100!
FYI: On a full tank we do a round trip from Oyster Bay, our home base, to the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor and back!

Even though we are sailors, our safety team needs the SailAhead RHIB to fulfil its many missions! This is an AB Inflatable 24 feet boat with a Yamaha 200 HP outboard engine. This boat is a very reliable work horse which allows the SailAhead safety team to be involved with many different activities and events on the water. Some of the duties of the team is to provide medical support, move veterans from boat to boat while at sea, provide support to the event photographers ...
For this to work, we need fuel and a lot of it!

Some of the most prestigious events the Safety Team is involved with are:

  • C. Thomas Clagett
  • The Clagett is North America's premier event for sailors with disabilities sailed in the 3 Paralympic class boats.
  • Northport VA Adaptive Sports Day
  • For many disabled veterans, adaptive sports is a means of taking back some part of their lives that disabilities have taken away. SailAhead has been providing sail boats, skippers, crew and its safety team and of course the safety RHIB! During these events, veterans are given the opportunity to safely discover sailing and the therapeutic value it can provide.
  • Priscilla Sailing
  • Priscilla is a 130 years old wooden oyster sloop! Based on the south shore, she is the pride treasure of the Long Island Maritime Museum. Several times each season SailAhead organizes outings for some Northport VA outpatients. These outings are made possible with the participation and strong support of Priscilla and her crew, the Long Island Maritime Museum and the Snapper-Inn. During these events, our guest veterans are treated to a visit of the Long Island Maritime Museum and a sailing excursion on Priscilla. Our guests are also generously treated for lunch by the Snapper-Inn. A great day every time for all!
  • South Bay Cruising Club Outing
  • SailAhead partnered with South Bay Cruising Club to organize sailing outings on the bay with veterans. Such partnership best represents SailAhead's core values, where passionate local sailors with their families and friends welcome with open arms veterans on their boats to spend memorable afternoons on the South Bay!
  • Let's Take a Veteran Sailing, hosted by the Centerport Yacht Club
  • This is SailAhead's most prestigious event hosted by the CYC. By having this event annually, we hope to continue spreading SailAhead's mission throughout Long Island and our neighbouring states, spreading the word about PTSD so that we may continue healing, branching out to other Yacht Club's and organizations who would like to do the same. Through this event we can reach many people at a time, spreading very effectively the word while enjoying sailing with many wonderful people.
  • Transat Bakerly
  • Home to the oldest single handed transatlantic race in history ‘The Transat bakerly’. Previously the OSTAR The Transat is back for 2016 sailing from Plymouth to New York.
