American Legion - Post 1244American Legion Greenlawn Post 1244

Greenlawn, NY

American Legion Greenlawn Post 1244 was chartered on March 15, 1943. Its ranks are drawn from veterans of each of the Armed Forces of the United States and from all war eras from World War II up to and including Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan). The Post is dedicated in honoring and supporting all veterans who have served their country, fostering a 100% Americanism, mentoring youth and supporting a strong national defense.

With over 250 members, primarily from the Town of Huntington, the Post has been very supportive of SailAhead since the moment we first met, from allowing us to reach more veterans and to guiding us in dealing with several administrations. Our partnership is working and together we are doing a lot to help veterans in our community. SailAhead is proud to say that in the recent history of the Post, their largest event held was a SailAhead event - "Let's take a Vet Sailing!"

Centerport Yacht ClubCenterport Yacht Club

Centerport, NY

Founded in 1947, the Centerport Yacht Club has served for almost 70 years as a yachting and social activities focal point for the boating community on Long Island's North Shore. The goals of the Club are to encourage the sport of yachting, to promote skill in navigation and boat handling, to provide facilities for boating and entertainment for its members.

CYC has shown strong support to SailAhead and the veterans of our community by hosting our largest annual "Let's take a vet sailing" event! Thanks to CYC and its members, we are able to organize significantly larger events that allow us to celebrate our work with hundreds of veterans, skippers, partners and volunteers. Because of the scale of such events hosted by CYC we are able to spread the word faster and further which is strategically important to us as well.

David Windmiller - PilotDavid Windmiller - Pilot

Melville, NY

David grew up in Brooklyn where he started flying at 14. His first solo was over the Great South Bay on his 16th birthday! David has been really successful in his professional life which allowed him to continue to fly and become one of the most respected aerobatic pilots in America. David also raced in the Open Division—the most competitive class of competition in power boat racing. David helps others when his schedule permits.

David volunteers his time and helicopter to SailAhead by providing excellent photos while veterans sail, as well as creating a topic of conversation for all the excited sailors when he flies really, really low over our heads!

Laurent Apollon - PhotographerLaurent Apollon - Photographer

Port Washington, NY

Laurent grew up in a coastal town in France, where he developed his love of sailing early on. He moved to the United States over ten years ago, and discovered compatriots in year-round sailing on the Long Island Sound, where he keeps his trimaran. He currently teaches sailing lessons with Sailors NYC, and is the US representative for TIWAL, a French company that sells an ingenious inflatable sailboat. He has also worked for Motive Trimaran, testing new prototypes and developing improvements.

Laurent has been volunteering his time and talent as a photographer for SailAhead since the winter of 2014.

Long Island Maritime MuseumLong Island Maritime Museum

West Sayville, NY

The Long Island Maritime Museum was founded in 1966 and is located on the historic West Sayville waterfront. The museum grounds, once part of the Meadow Edge estate of Mr. and Mrs. Anson Hard, is now comprised of fourteen acres and nine historic buildings. Charged with the mission of preserving Long Island’s maritime history and heritage for educational purposes, the Museum has been welcoming visitors from all over the world for over 40 years.

The Long Island Museum supports SailAhead by allowing several sailing outings per season on the Oyster Sloop Priscilla in the Great South Bay. These outings are peaceful and allow us to travel back in time when the oyster industry was prevalent on Long Island. Priscilla is a historic vessel kept in mint condition by the dedicated work of volunteers and it is truly a privilege for us to be able to present this opportunity to our veterans.

Northport VA Medical CenterNorthport VA Medical Center

Northport, NY

The Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center provides health care services to veterans on Long Island and surrounding areas.

We are proud to work with the Northport VA Medical Center and are thankful for their growing support. We are still a very young organization, but being acknowledged as a therapy platform by the VA motivates us immensely. We have projects lined up and our partnership is growing steadily and strongly. Our shared goal is for SailAhead to become an important healing platform for the VA's patients.

Oakcliff Sailing CenterOakcliff Sailing Center

Oyster Bay, NY

Oakcliff Sailing Center is an elite training facility dedicated to improving the level of America's sailors.
Programs are designed for athletes who have progressed beyond traditional coaching methods and are looking for a way to take the next step. Based in Oyster Bay, New York, Oakcliff sailors are privy to unmatched facilities.

Oakcliff's support for SailAhead is unbounded and has been this way since the very beginning. In fact, without Oakcliff's early support we would not be here now! Not only are they professionals of the sea, they have also become our friends, their help is precious; from actively participating in most of SailAhead's events, allowing us beach access, use of Oakcliff sailboats and ribs, sharing knowledge and connections, advice, repair works, volunteerism and so much more ...

Oyster Bat Marine CenterOyster Bay Marine Center

Oyster Bay, NY

Oyster Bay Harbor has been a port of call for sailors since the early 1600’s who were attracted to the area by its deep water port, abundance of natural resources and captivating beauty. Oyster Bay Marine Center is the only full service boatyard and Marina on Oyster Bay Harbor.

OBMC supports some of SailAhead events by allowing us to launch them from OBMC's marina - taking full advantage of its facilities and launching services. OBMC also provides mooring and support to transient boats that are part of SailAhead events. OBMC and staff are making SailAhead's events even better.

Snapper-InnSnapper-Inn

Oakdale, NY

The Snapper Inn is one of our favorite waterfront restaurants on Long Island -- Excellent service and delicious food! The perfect place for music, meals, and cocktails on the banks of the Connetquot River.

The Snapper-Inn "backyard" is where you'll find the Priscilla when docked during the high season. On occasions the Snapper-Inn will graciously invite our veterans to a brunch before embarking or returning from a Priscilla outing. When this happens we are hitting a perfect home run between the Priscilla and the Snapper-Inn! The time spent at the Snapper-Inn extends the Priscilla experience and makes it even more memorable. Needless to say that our veterans are well taken care of!

The Waterfront CenterThe Waterfront Center

Oyster Bay, NY

The Waterfront Center teaches people to become active stewards of the marine environment, and to promote community sailing and other environmentally friendly ways to enjoy the waters of Long Island.

The Waterfront Center is definitively a strong SailAhead partner; The Waterfront participates in our events, by providing boats, skippers and crew, as well as offering US Sailing keelboat training and certifications to our veterans. This latter part is strategically important for us because thanks to their work and support we can grow our pool of veteran-skippers, which in turn will help us help even more veterans!

USMMA Sailing FoundationUSMMA Sailing Foundation

Kings Point, NY

The USMMA Sailing Foundation’s mission is to actively solicit funds and donations of sail and power vessels for use in the various programs, maritime instruction, maritime education, and sailing competitions. The Warrior Sailing Program is a program of the Foundation and is focused on introducing wounded, ill and injured military service members to the sport of sailing and maritime education.

The USMMA Sailing Foundation supports SailAhead by attending our events, by providing support, guidance, boats, skippers, crew and USMMA volunteers.
